When People Don't Know What is "Wrong" With You (Bald Edition)

It gets really hard to keep track of who knows what concerning my medical condition.  I never know who knows the whole story, or who is in the dark.  This makes life a little bit more difficult.  If you didn’t already know, I (Tremors) am kinda bald.  By kinda, I mean that I do have some hair, but it’s patchy and does not stick around long (and it’s super short).  (Just ask Nemo, she looks for shapes in the patches)   Now, since I am in my own dorm room, my bathroom is connected to another room where two people I had not met before live.  So, they naturally did not know that their new bathroom buddy is a bald twenty-something girl.  This means that they believe they can get away with certain things.  They currently think that they can claim that the hairballs in the shower can’t possibly be theirs.  Or that the hair scattered across the floor must be mine, because if it was theirs it would be picked up ASAP.  Let me tell you, n...

Wig Life

Tremors here today to talk about something that is kind of a big part of my life.  For those of you who are new here, or who don’t remember, I am missing a lot of my hair.  Basically, I am pretty much bald, give or take a few patches of hair here or there thanks to alopecia.  Because of this I wear hats, or a wig.  (Having little to no hair makes your head really cold, and at the same time you do not want to get a sunburn on your head)  I have had a wig for around 3 years now, and let’s just say that it is a love/hate relationship.   My primary wig is nice, like really nice.  It’s a human hair wig that matches my previous hair color almost perfectly.  The primary one that I wear is called a gripper, meaning that there is a band around it on the inside that grips my head making it more difficult for it to come off.  It goes past my shoulders, and has baby hairs cut to look more natural.  This is to prevent the usual boxy look of a w...

When a Girl Loses her Hair

Image
Tremors here today.  No one ever thinks that they will lose their hair.  Hair loss is seen as a laughing matter, and those who are experiencing hair loss (usually old, fat men) are made fun of for not having a full head of hair.  I (Tremors) started losing my hair in middle school.  One day I woke up and found out that I had two bald spots on the back of my head.  I was then diagnosed with alopecia.  Alopecia is a common autoimmune disease that causes hair loss that can range from just the scalp, to the entire body.  Later, I found out that my alopecia was related to my Satoyoshi Syndrome (We found this out when I was in high school).  Each bald spot on my scalp was around the size of a quarter more or less.  From there, my hair loss changed and the bald spots would create different patterns on my head.  I tried all different treatments to try to keep my remaining hair, and grow back what I lost.  My head was burned, poked and prod...
